New Jersey Ranks 3rd in Antisemitic Incidents Nationwide in 2024, ADL Reports

zero tolerance for antisemitism

In its latest annual audit, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) reported that New Jersey ranked third in the nation for antisemitic incidents in 2024, with 719 documented cases—a troubling reminder of the persistent threat facing Jewish communities across the state.

While the total reflects a 13% decrease from New Jersey’s record-breaking 830 incidents in 2023, the state remains a major hotspot for antisemitic activity, following only New York and California. Incidents were reported in all 21 counties, with Bergen County leading the state at 162, followed by Middlesex (93) and Essex (78).

Nationally, 2024 saw the highest number of antisemitic incidents ever recorded by the ADL, with 9,354 incidents across the U.S. This surge is largely attributed to the rise in antisemitism following the October 7th, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel, which triggered a sharp increase in hate incidents, harassment, and violence against Jewish individuals and institutions.

The report also highlighted a 21% increase in antisemitic assaults nationwide, totaling 250 cases. These statistics underscore a growing need for vigilance, community education, and coordinated efforts to push back against hate in all its forms—especially at the local and state levels where these threats are taking root.

At New Jersey United, we remain committed to standing up to antisemitism through advocacy, voter education, and community mobilization. The fight against antisemitism starts at home—and together, we can ensure that our schools, governments, and public spaces remain safe and inclusive for all.
